Patch Labs is building new ways to make life easier for you and your neighbors.

We need your help. We’re building a small band of talented professionals with the imagination to dream up new ideas and the drive to turn them into intuitively useful software.

About you

  • You’re smart, and make it happen
  • You love being part of a small team that solves big problems
  • You design with end users in mind (including those with very different wants and needs from your own).
  • You care more about ease and comfort than the perfect shade of gray.
  • You’re a pragmatist, informed by a purist approach but with an understanding of what it takes to ship and reach real users
  • You’re Agile where it makes sense, but always sensible, clever and hard-working

Role

Responsibilities

As a founding member of Patch Labs, you will work closely with a front-end engineer, platform engineer and product manager to create really useful, intuitive software. Specifically, you will:

  • Conceive, implement and refine intuitive user experiences
  • Create interaction models, user task flows, prototypes, screen designs and user interface assets
  • Visualize complex sets of data and interactions in ways that are easy to comprehend

Requirements

  • Passion for building software that makes life easier
  • Empathy for users and a realistic, humble view of how software fits into their everyday lives
  • Strong proficiency in the latest design software (e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks)
  • Prototyping skills in HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript. Basic Rails skills are a plus.
  • Experience with practical ways to solicit and integrate user research and feedback before, during and after the development process
  • Stellar layout, color, and typography skills
  • Strong copy writing skills - words are just as important as other visual elements
  • 5+ years designing highly usable, elegant interfaces
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent work experience

What We Offer

  • A driven, motivated, and talented team that believes in working hard and reaping the rewards
  • Laid-back office environment in the heart of SoHo
  • Competitive compensation and excellent benefits
